I have read quite alot recently on Normalisation/relationships etc. I am building a customer service db (to replace a huge flat file db) to keep track of all our customers.

For each customer I want to record information about repairs to their equipment, calls etc.

I have however come a little unstuck. Can anyone offer any advice on it?

Particularly, on calls subform I can't select a customers contact name for that call, or the machine the call refers to ( [UnitDetailID] ) it either just displays the ID number or one name. I think my relationship is either the wrong way round or some type of conflicting/incorrect query. Please see attached. (A97).

You are holding the CustContactID in TblCustomer. You should be holding CustID in TblCustContact. This will give you many contacts for each customer.

You should be basing your forms on queries. In particular, you need a query that pulls data from TblUnitDetail and TblRepair to address the problem you are having.

I suspect you can merge TblRepair and TblRefurb to reduce the complexity.

Many thanks for your comments neileg,

I am struggling to get my head round all this. Think I have been looking at it for too long.

Sure I will get there in the end. Many thanks again.:)

neileg, or anyone:

With refrence to your comments, do you have a minute to look at this sample?

I have built [Form1] on [Query1] is this the correct method?
ignore the poor naming - just a test.

Any advice is greatly received. Even a simple yes or no would help.

Merry xmas all.
