Can someone explain to me as I seem to be the missing link. I open a form which is linked to 1 table. The primary field is named Spin. My form opens blank which suits me. However I thought if I entered the spin vlaue for an existing record the rest of the fileds would automatically fill out on the form. But it does not! Can anyone point out to me where I am going wrong?

When you create a form, what you described is one of many possibilities.

The simplest way to do this is take that text box where you enter the desired value. Delete it. Now using the tools wizard, create a combo box. It will ask you where to get the values. Tell it your linked table's name. It will then ask you what you want to do and give you three choices. One of the choices is to open the record that matches what you selected. A text box allows you to enter data without actually selecting via drop-down, and you can turn on auto-complete if needed to facilitate the selection.

Read up on combo boxes in Access Help. I'm not going to swear by it, but I think you can also make a list box do this.

My guess is that you have opened the form for data entry, therefore only new records can be created.

Edit: With Doc on the case I'll retire gracefully
