For some reason when I open my switchboards, on occasion the buttons are inactive; nothing happens when you click them, no error messages, no hourglass, nothing. It's almost like they are codeless. Sometimes they will do this first thing in the morning; sometimes twice a day; most days not at all (thankfully!). Additionally I've noticed that the timer is not running on the form (as evidenced by the clock not advancing).

If I go into Design view and then back to Form view, they invariably work fine. Sometimes they will stop working in the middle of the day if I have made a lot of small edits. However my users are not necessarily trained to do this, nor do I want them mucking about in design view. Does anyone have any experience with this problem and what solves it? Most of the buttons are standard DoCmd.OpenXXXXX buttons, but not even DoCmd.Close works on these instances.

This is worth a try.

Go to your 'Tools' menu
Then 'Database Utilities'
Run the 'Compact and Repair Database...'

If that doesn't do it defrag your hard drive and run your windoctor.

As a last ditch attemp, you could run your Microsoft Office install cd. There is a 'Repair' fucntion. This takes a long time to run and doesn't often work.
Re-installing Office is sometimes faster, but a lot more dangerous.

Good Luck

Well, the databases are regularly compacted, and only one has an extensive switchboard. I've not seen the others do this particular 'trick' before, but it's possible. Yesterday it did it though before I ever went in to make any design changes so I am very curious if anyone has experienced anything similar.

I had some forms with cmd buttons that that happened to. I don't know why but I turned the autocorrect in the tools/options menu off and it quit occuring. But I don't know why.
