According to Greek City Times, a Greek woman has filed for divorce after asking ChatGPT to interpret leftover coffee grounds—an AI-assisted reading that allegedly revealed her husband was fantasizing about another woman.

The incident followed a rising trend known as AI tasseography, where people upload photos of coffee cup residue and ask AI to “read” them. In this case, the chatbot claimed to see signs of infidelity, specifically naming a woman whose name began with “E” and warning she was trying to “destroy” the family.

The woman, convinced by the interpretation, immediately told her husband to leave, informed their children of the split, and filed for divorce—without confronting him directly.

“She thought it was fun,” the husband told Greek media. “I laughed it off. But next thing I knew, I got a call from her lawyer.” When he refused a mutual separation, she served formal papers.

His lawyer is now challenging the case, arguing that AI-generated interpretations of coffee stains have no legal basis. Traditional tasseography experts have also weighed in, pointing out that true readings require more than just photos of grounds—factors like foam and swirl patterns matter too.
