automatically populate field

In my form I have a field called Dept that selects from a list box.

when the appropriate Dept is selected
I would like to populate another field called Level
with the slected Department's appropriate floor number.


Can you advise which functions I should use / or how to do this .

I would just add another column to the list box for the
level. It does not even have to be visible.

The same event that moves out the Department name can
move out the level.

By the way, you could retrieve the level from the table
for forms and reports. Never store anything that you
can calculate. But in this case, that is a small point.

Think about this: do you need to store the department's floor in a table every time a department is added.

If you have a Department table already created, you'll have the floor indexed within that (I expect )

On your form or report, you can set the controlsource to be the DLookup formula - you shouldn't need a table to store it.
