Autonumber not from 1?

I have a primary key with autonumber in my main table . I want Access 2000 to start the numbers from 1 but it always starts from some other number except 1. This is so annoying. I have tried deleting the CustomerId and putting it back in.....but of no avail. Please can you suggest something to get rid of this problem. Thanks !!

Delete all recs and compact and repair.
