Autonumbering

Hello,
I 'm pretty new to access and I am trying to divide number of courses into groups automatically e.g if i have 80 students on a programme i want to divide them into groups and each group must have a maximum of 20 students.It could be less but not more.

Please any help will be highly appreciated.

How good is your coding? I'd say it is about the only way to do this. Create a recordset and run through it. Easy if you do it that way.

Otherwise I could suggest a clunky method using a Make Table querie to record twenty names without a group yet assigned, and another query to return the highest group number already assigned, and then combine them to update the twenty names selected.

Your table would have to have a primary key for this to work.
