Autonumbering

Is there anyway to edit auto numbering? This moring while entering my my 74th form for my organization's holiday program I noticed that the record skipped to 75. In other words, my form and data base record are not corresponding. Is there an easy solution. Thanks

No, you cannot renumber the numbers (unless you delete that 75th record, and compact the database). Autonumbers are supposed to be a meaningless way to unique identify each record. You should not use them as a way to count records. FYI: If you start editing a new record and then ESC out of it, that autonumber will be used up and you'll skip to the next one. Also, deleting a record leaves a gap in the sequence.

If for any reason it is vital for you to reset your AutoNumbering, what you could try is deleting the AutoNumber field from your table, then reinserting it. The new field would be sequentially numbered.

This is extremely dangerous, of course, if you have any other tables that refer to the ID number of the first table.
