You see, I knew Brian had lots of ideas 
Here's the calc average db. Seems to be working so you would need to do more testing.
There were two problems:
1. From the sample data in post #4 Serial looked like a number, but in actual fact it's a string. That really mattered. Always give that info.
2. The rec date/tin date calculations where on the wrong side, so I switched those over.

My bad on the serial data... But totally understand where you are coming from; it definatly will make a difference.
I am going to try to add in your module/etc into my main DB this morning - if time allows.
