I have Access 2013 on my desktop and have created a detailed database using it. I copied the file onto a memory stick and then connected the memory stick to my laptop that has Access 2007 on it. To my amazement Access 2007 was unable to open the file. Is this surprising and can I have suggestions as to what to do?
Thanks

Hello determined37, Welcome to AWF :)

This thread is dedicated to Introductions only, I will ask the Mods to move this thread to a more appropriate section. In the meantime, what is the bit version of the systems? Are you getting any error messages? If so what is the error message?

Both computers are 64 bit and both are WIN 7. The message is "unrecognised database format 'F:\All Members_8Feb14.accdb'

Sorry about wrong location.

I am more concerned about the Access Bit versions, check if one of them is 32 bit and the other is 64.

Try a Compile of the Database, you will be pointed to some unhanded compiler errors (if any exists). Clear them (Then try creating an MDE).

(Not resolved? -) Try a Compact and Repair, then try the above step again.

(Not resolved? - ) Try a Decompile on a backup copy of the file; then perform the above two steps.

(Not Resolved? - ) Try importing all objects to a new empty MDB/ACCDB file

The desktop says "Microsoft Access 2013 (15.0.4551.1506) MSO (15.0.4551.1508) 32-bit"
so presumably is 32 bit.
The laptop, in the same area says
"Microsoft Access 2007 (12.0.6606.1000) SP3 MSO (12.0.6683.5000)" so don't know what that is.
Sorry don't know how to 'Compile the database, or for that matter compact and repair, but happy to learn.

FYI, moved to general forum.

That didn't work either, but I have sort of solved the problem myself, although cannot explain the reason. I got my home net work up and running, and using Access 2007 on the laptop opened my difficult file on the desktop. It worked. So I exited and copied the file from desktop to laptop using home network and bingo Access 2007 seems to be happy with the file. If I get explanatory info or more problems I will get back to you!
Thanks for your involvement
