Barcode printing problem

Hi,

I am using the downloaded "IDAutomation code 39" font recommended in this forum. It works great on laser quality reports and the scanner reads the codes fine.

But when I try to print to a Zebra TLP2844, the labels are intermittently faint, and not readable by the scanner. The whole label's quality is very sub standard.

I have been reading about the Printer and someone else suggested that I need a template stored in the printer and feed in the data to this template??

Has anyone had any experience with this type of printer / problem??

Many thanks

Hi RG,

Thanks for your quick response.

That was the first thing I tried, admitedly the quality got better and there are more tools for config'ing the printer, but none of the changes seems to make enough of difference to the label quality.

coincidently, the printer works fine from a bespoke Unix program, but want to print from Access 2003.

Research and the manual has suggested that I can "script" controls directly to the printer from text editor or DOS.
For more info:
https://support.zebra.com/cpws/docs/eltron/epl_dos_com_test.htm

Which led me to wonder is there a way I could do this from Access module or function. My experience of VB has been mostly gleened from this forum, but is only beginners level.

Currently I run a report that displays the barcode using the above mentioned font, then print to the Zebra via USB.

Any help would be most gratefully received.

Thanks, Daz.

Many thanks.

I'll try this one and let you know.

Success

Hi,

I spent a little longer with the ID automation font, it seems that the thermal printer could not cope with the font in small font sizes.
Because our barcode was going to 15 chrs, I had to reduce the font size to fit it on the label.

That was the problem. I sent a smaller number in a larger font size and it read it fine.

I then tried the the "free 3 of 9" font and this seems much more scalable.
It prints and is readable at smaller font sizes.

I think we shall use this one instead, although it doesn't includea human readable number, ( I have added that myself beneath the barcode).

Many thanks to RG for pointing me in the direction of the "free 3of9" font.

Regards

Hi dazadd99,
Glad to hear you got it working. Where there's a will, there's a way!:p
