I'm creating a database with a history table. The only table in the database will be this history as it is dumped from an operational database which i don't want to get too big.
I need to keep records in the History for seven years and i estimate adding around 20,000 records a day. Thats around 51 million records. The history over a year old wll probably never be accessed and is just being kept for legal requirements so i will probably split the history into two table (<1year and 1year+)
Will the size of these tables be a problem?
Will compacting the DB help and can this be automated?
