Big ugly gaps in my reports??

I have created some reports which include using people's first names and their surnames which I have in a table as separate entities.

But when it comes to producing the reports there are big gaps after some of the surnames because people's surnames are of different lengths obviously.

e.g
"John Smith"
as opposed to
"Christopher Smith"

Is there a way that the Access adjusts the size of the text boxes to fit the names alongside each other normally on the Report so that the gaps do not appear?

Thanks for your help (and please don't suggest shorting the name to Chris for example instead of Christopher!!).

You could try to concatenate them in the underlying query.

Ok thanks Ken!

Emmmmmm, how exactly do I concatenate them?

Concatenate

Ad a column to the query and in the Field row put something like:

TotalName: [Firstname] & " " & [Surname]

Then in the report the fieldname you will use is: TotalName

There are a couple ways actually. To concat, or combine the, simply do something like the following in the query on the top line of a blank col:

FullName: fname & " " & lname

Or you could just do this in the report's textbox:

=[fname] & " " & [lname]

Does this help (Somtimes these things are hard to explain :) )
