This question isn't directly related to Access and I apologise if this is the wrong forum to aks my question.

I am after a book that covers Database Design from the beginning rather than one on how to use a particular database application.

I have short listed a number of titles down to two books and I was wondering if any of the Forum Users had read them/have copies and could let me have comments/recommendations on these or any books of similar coverage.

The titles are:

Database Design for Mere Mortals - A Hands on Guide to Relational Database Management by Michael J Hernandez

and

Database Design by Ryan K Stevens and Ronald R Plew.

Many thanks for your time.

Awes.

Access Database, Design & Programming, 2nd Edition by Steven Roman, published by O'Reilly, costing $32.95 retail, is very good on mere database principles.

I also recently looked at an XML book at Barnes & Noble which had detailed database principles. Sorry, but no title for this one.

Book

I started out using a little book called "Starting Access 2000" a green covered book cost about £8.00.

Shows you how to build a book database.

From there I went onto "Running MS Access 2000" by John Viecas.

Have fun
