Hi all,

I want to learn more about Access VBA. Are there any books that are like textbooks? For example, there's a topic on recordset. So there's some explanation of what it can do, how it should be done. And at the end of the topic, they give you some sample scenarios to let you work out the solution.

I don't mind if I'm going to need a series of books, if there is actually one.

Hi

Try searching for "Access VBA Programming 2007" at an online book shop like Amazon.
Should give you plenty to choose from :)

EDIT: I browsed around on amazon, read some reviews, and saw these books.

1. Alison Balter's Mastering Microsoft Office Access 2007 Development
2. Access Database Design & Programming, 3rd Ed. (Steve Roman)
3. Access Cookbook, 2nd Ed. (Ken Getz, Paul Litwin, Andy Baron)

I want to start learning Access from the basics again. As i was creating a database recently, i jumped into VBA quite early without fully knowing what i could do without it.

Which book would you recommend?

Hi sunset1215,

As much as I would like to help you, I’m afraid I couldn’t honestly recommend any particular books because that which one reader thinks is great, another will think it worthless. A bit like politicians perhaps :). I have leant a lot from reading through the posts of the many Access Forums and the sites that are often mentioned in them, like Allen Brown’s http://allenbrowne.com/tips.html

Remember, that as long as forums like this exist, there is always someone who will help you .

Good luck and enjoy the ride of knowledge.

Regards

Bob

I've read #1 and it is good. There are some things I would disagree with Alison on, but she's great. She has spoken at the Portland Access User Group Annual Conference several years in a row.

I don't know about #2 and I know about two of the authors of #3 (Ken Getz and Andy Baron) both of whom are extremely good at what they do. Ken does many of the videos from the LearnDevNow website and is very well-spoken and interesting to learn from.

As for other books - I have several on my "Books I Recommend" page on my website:
