Button on subform to change data in the main form

I have a button on a subform that updates the record in the subform. I also want to change a field in the main form at the same time.
from the VBA code on the button in the subform, I have written "me.[frmMAIN]!{MainField] = "NewValue"
doesn't work what am I doing wrong???
been going round in circles ......

you really have that brace, or is it a typo?
