I am an older Access student. First time studying Access.

I have been trying to get this right all day. Very confused. Hoping for some help please.

So I have this formula which calculates 10% of commission from pay.

[Pay]/1.1

Now, how do i change the above formula to calculate 8.5% from pay?

thank you.

thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!

You're welcome but either your first calculation or mine are incorrect.
It depends whether commission is being added to the pay or already included.

For example my approach for 10% of pay would have been 0.1*[Pay].
BUT if your original was correct, you now need [Pay]/1.085

Let's take 2 examples
1. Pay before commission =£100. Commission @10% =0.1*100=£10
Total pay =£110
Net pay before commission in total pay of £110=110/1.1=£100

2. As above but 8.5% commission =0.085*100=£8.50. Total pay =£108.50
Net pay before commission in total pay of £108.50=108.5/1.085=£100

Hope that helps
