Is it possible to create a replica of a main database with only a few parts, so that it acts as an input form? if not is it possible to hide the views on the replica including the other forms and reports?

Paul,

I may not fully understand your question... You can create a new, separate Access file and link to the tables in your original Access file where the data is actually housed. Once you're linked, it's as though the tables are in the local file. You will be able to create new forms and queries and reports in the linking file...they will interact with the tables in the "back-end" file.

The problem is that the input forms will be done remotely, basically what has happened is that we carry out 3 surveys using 3 forms tied to one table. Now they want to outsource the surveys, not a problem and I have used replicas before and they work very well, the problem is I don't want the people we outsource to see everything we do which they will if I send them a standard replica.

I have thought of separating the main table but it is a nightmare to do it as the main table feeds reports which also provide ratios etc. plus splitting out 3 years worth of data.

Replication is the way to go I just need to sort out what they can and can't see, I would even like to be able to change the menus as well but I don't think this would be possible.

Access workgroup security might be the answer. It's not the most intuitive tool and the Microsoft FAQ "white paper" is brutal to read but configuring a workgroup file does allow you to secure different parts of an Access file. I am not sure, however, how replication might affect things...

Thanks pono1,

As you say the white paper is brutal, but it may be the way to go.

It'll take a few days to get time to go through it all, I'll be back in touch.
