Hi,

I need to link lot's of files (mostly pdf and word, sometimes tiff or jpg) to records in my database. The example posted on this forum by GHudson (http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=97787) looks great to me but I cannot get it 'transplanted' to my DB so I'm looking for some help.

I've imported the modules, the form and the tables to my DB. They work as in the example. What I cannot figure out is how to retrieve the imported data and link them to a specific record? For starters I cannot even find the file I've just imported in the tImport? Were is it? I've deleted all the files from that table, import a new one and the table remians empty. I don't get it. As far as I understand I need at least an ID number for each imported file + a linking key to whatever record I want to link the imported file to. I'm at a loss, after spending 2 entire loooooong evenings and a big part of today on this I'm really at a dead end and could do with some help and/or advice.

Thanks, Walter

No way to guess. You would have to post your db to see where your problem is. Double check your db against mine since you know mine works.

Are you saving the record after the text box is updated with the location of the selected file? Your form has to have the text box that is holding the file location string bound to a field in your table. I am not doing that in my sample.

I will do so again. Have other pressing matters at the moment but will have time later today or tomorrow to do so. If I cannot get any further with it I'll gladly post the DB on Monday or so.

No, I'm not saving the record automatically. Will do that.
My form does have the text box. I have placed the F1 field in the table that generates my form. Is that the way to do it? Otherwise I don't understand what you mean.
In your sample I do not see the saved location show up in the tImport. Where is the location stored?

Thanks GHudson for helping.

My sample is NOT saving the location of the "browsed" [selected] file. I am only showing you how to use the browsing funciton.

The tImport table is for the importing of the Windows.ini file I used as an example of importing a file.

The comments given made me understand that I needed to have another good look at what this example actually does and I'm happy to say that I now got it to work! Very pleased with this option. Thanks all for the pointers.

Walter
