Hi, I'm using Access 2010 for the first time and having a devil of a job doing anything.

I'm trying to either import a Form, or create a new one - to display an image.
Neither operation is working. If I make a new Form, in design view I do not see the Caption bar or Close box, just a square grid with lines up and accross.
The Form I want to duplicate (it's in an .mdb file) doesn't look like that (in design view) it has a caption bar and scroll bars and the square grid thing is inside that.
If I copy - paste that into a new instance of Access it says the database has been placed in a state by... that prevents it being opened or locked.

If I export it, then try to import it, I'm told the module name "Form_frmPic" is invalid (as it starts with "Form_" ?). This is the name given when Exported.
It's also not a module, but a Form (if that's relevant).
Spent a couple of hours getting nowhere.. so if anyone can help... thanks!

You cannot create a new form in accdb 2010 database?

That's right June. I do get a Form but not exacly like what is wanted. I'm curious why. A lot of things are new/differnet which doesn't help. The column on the left where Forms are listed.. even the icon for the Form is a different size, may not matter but is another irritation.

If I have an mdb file loaded into Access 2010, can I export a Form from that into a new database? If yes, could you show steps required please?

PMFJI,

I think you might need to create a source accdb version first.?

Heck, what's a "source accdb" ?

I have found if I open access and go Create-Blank Form I get a sort of full page display with a tab saying Form1.

BUT if I open my mdb file and do the same I see a smaller window and the Forrm in a more recognisable design view, showing a caption bar and close box. I could drag a control onto it (if I could find the toolbox) .

I have no problem opening mdb files with Access 2010. If you want to provide db for analysis, follow instructions at bottom of my post.

So in a brand new Access file, you are able to create form?

Two ways to set up db interface: Overlapping Windows and Tabbed Documents. New file defaults to Tabbed Documents. I always use Overlapping Windows. This is an Options setting of the file.

TBH I'm not sure how to describe this so have attached a couple of images.
Image1 is after opening an existing mdb file and clicking Create-Blank Form
Image2 is after opening a new instance of Access and clicking Create-Blank Form.

The result for each is quite different, Image1 is as expected (a Form to design). Image2 is very different (if it's a Form at all). There are record selectors and a tab heading, but no Form like image1

How can I get the same Form showing as in Image1 ?

Image1 is Overlapping Windows setting, Image2 is Tabbed Documents - the default for a new database. Exactly what I already described.

If you want Overlapping Windows then set database Options for that.

Thanks June, success and is something to remember. Now I might be able to do something with the form. Wonder what lunatic decided to make that change!
