Can't enforce referential integrity on a linked table? (options greyed out)

Hi - I have a fairly simple Access 2002 DB with about 10 tables, and all the relationships properly defined (including referential integrity).

I've been experimenting with splitting the tables into a separate back-end DB, but there are only really 3 tables that are updated (the others are really just 'limited choice' tables).

I tried using the database splitter, which transfers *all* the tables to a backend DB, and the relationships are kept fine.... but I have read that keeping the 'static' tables in the front end can be faster - so I tried to split the database manually, by creating a new DB and then copying the 3 tables into that, and linking them from the front end.

However, I don't appear to be able to enforce referential integrity - the options are all greyed out!

Any suggestions?

Appears to work if Access does it?

But it does with linked tables created by the 'Database Splitter' utility??

i have linked tables from a database built in Uniface, and referential integrity does not work with them either. I assume that it does with all linked tables, but i am not 100% sure.
