Can't remove "input mask" in MS contact table

Wanted to use the MS free contact database 2002 version.

However, even if I changed the contact table phone field to integer to accomodate long European phone number, - and saved it, The forms still come up with the "text" input mask set by Microsoft.

I do exactly as instructed in the help meny to change fields.
Do I need to save as another database or what am I doing wrong?

Make sure there is not an input mask on the form field.
Look at the Data tab of the properties menu for the textbox used to enter the phonenumber, and you should see an InputMask property.
