My annual resolution. Last year (2014) I had an expensive LED flashlight die because of battery corrosion. I have several flashlights spread around the house in case of power failure, which is fairly frequent. They are easily forgotten since they don't get used much.

As a result, I went around the house and inspected our other battery operated devices. My wife's reading light, which I bought her for Christmas (2013) and which she never used (though profusely claiming to want one) was just just starting to experience battery corrosion. Fortunately a quick cleaning fixed it.

Today, I replaced all the flashlight batteries.

Especially the low quality batteries that sometimes come with the devices when you buy them.

We have a torch with a built in dynamo operated by a handle as a last resort.
