Chart based on paramatised stored procedure

Hello all!

I have searched and searched everywhere and cannot find a reference to this let alone a solution - surely I am not the only one who wishes to do this!?!

Its quite simple - I wish to build a chart in a report in an A2000 adp based on a stored procedure which gets one or more parameters from a form that resides within the same adp.

It is easy in an mdb - Ive done hundreds and hundreds.

Ive had to do a workaround whereby a button on the parameter form uns a stored procedure that clears a temp table on the server, gathers the data based on a forms parameters, repopulates the temp table which is then used as the recordset for the chart and then opens the report.

I can see this becoming tedious having to create two server objects for one simple graph - there must be a better way. Hopefully I have missed something simple.

From what I've read about ADP's (I've not used them), what you describe is exactly why ADP's are not necessarily the best thing to use, since you can't have any local storage.

Unless someone else has an idea, I think you're stuck with what you've got.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

That is just as tedious doing it in an mdb as you have to play around with querydefs to get the parameter sent off to the server - thats still another object to play around with!

OK, that means that I am at a crossroads. I need a simple solution in case I get hit by a bus, and someone else here at work needs to pick up the ball and run with it.

If an ADP is unsuitable for a simple paramatised graph, and an MDB is unsuitable for a simple parametised stored procedure, what options do I have?

I have looked into ASP and have it working on our server and have started to familiarise myself with its workings. I have also lbegun exploring the notion of server 2000 reporting services (I think we are going to need to get a copy of vb.net before I can get my hands on a working copy - more office politics woohoo).

Does anybody have any advice??
