Let me go through the steps...

1. Insert Chart
2. Define Data
3. Define Series Name

When defining the series name, it defines the chart title dynamically. If the series name changes (defined by a cell on another sheet), the chart title changes.

When I go to add a trendline, the chart title disappears and is replaced by "Chart Title". I need the title to be dynamic and change according to what the chart is. But I can't do that if I define a static chart title.

So how do I get it to work?

Howdy. Rather than use the title box, use a textbox linked to a cell. This will allow it to be dynamic and allows much more flexibility in formatting.

Actually, I put graphs (charts) on separate worksheets from the data (but not a chartsheet). I make one cell large to hold the entire graph. You can make the chart fit exactly to the cell, by selecting the chart, then holding down the ALT key and move the edge to match the edge of the cell (with the ALT key it will snap to the cell borders). I make the chart with no border and no fill, and uncheck the Autoscale on the font, and use size 8. Thus, all colors, etc (except series of data) is accomplished through the cell formatting.

Then the cell above is used for the link for title, and the cell below is used for link to comments.

See attachment.

This method allows great flexibility for the chart, but also gives you the full use of Excel capabilities for color schemes, cell formatting, etc.

Yeah, I knew about the cell thing. I was just trying to get around it.

Thanks, though. :)
