Charts display quarters as months sporatically

I have a report that is acting screwy...

I have a query that drives a report that has the following expression to sort the data into quarters: Audit Quarter: DatePart("q", qry_Master![Audit Date],0,0) & "-"& Year(qry_Master![Audit Date])

As a result I get 1-2008, 2-2008, etc. This works fine.

When I pull this into a chart report, the chart works fine IF I request a complete year or complete quarters.

However, if I pull a range which starts and ends mid-quarter, say 4/4/08-2/26/09, then some of the sorted charts display fine, but others will appear as "months," with data for quarters 2, 3, 4, 1-2009 leaving empty "quarters" 5-12. The SQL looks fine, and the query works fine.

The only thing I have done out of the ordinary was to define a custom "date" type as "m-yyyy" for the axis display to fool the system as no quarters available. Have tried text versions, but nothing seems to work. I'm out of ideas..... HELP!

I figured out my own problem...
FYI, I changed the query expression to read as follows:

Audit Quarter:Year([qry_Master]![Audit Date]) & "Q" & DatePart("q",[qry_Master]![Audit Date],0,0)

It therefore reads ... 2008Q1, 2008Q2...

My guess is that by including the alpha character it no longer interprets the value as a monthly "date" anf forced text in the chart. Works like a charm.
