I am trying to put a charts on reports. the charts will display various things, representing 6 members of staff, the number of days they work in a year, the different types of days they work etc. ideally what i would like to do it type in a staff member's name, then up should pop a chart with numbers on the y axis, months of the year on the x axis, and then say i was looking for the nett mandays, those figures would be represented on the chart. i have tried using the wizard and it doesn't help.
can someone help?

Could you post more specifics on a chart you want to do. It looks like you want lots of things to happen. I do a lot of charts, but try to keep them simple to avoid overkill or clutter. Post an example and I'll be more than happy to get you started.

ok, i've managed to create some kind of a chart. i have a new problem. i want to resize the graph, the one i have created is about 2 inches by 3, and i want it, when i print it out, to fill an a4 sheet, but it doesn't seem too straightforward, short of fiddling about with the font size of the text on the graph. surely there must be a simpler way of doing it?

cheers

In design view adjust the size of your grid and the size of the background of your graph in the detail section. Click on the graph to resize the graph itself. You can change properties such as fonts, colors and much more right. Maybe brush up on these in your instruction manuals??

I have now got the hang of charts. now for my next problem... when in design view, i am getting a view that differs from the actual chart i am designing (in design view i am looking at a chart with a yellow, purple, green and burgandy blocks representing default values) when i switch to preview, and i am only using one value, i get a single purple block, representing the values that i want to represent, and the chart looks ok. but sometimes when i open the chart, the actual view that i am given is the one i get in design view, with all the different coloured blocks.
how can i avoid this. i have saved it in the format that i want to use, but it still sometimes gives me the wrong info.
help.

It is normal that the display you see in View differs from the one you see in Form view. If you only have one value and open the form in Form View it should open as you describe though and not with multiple values (bars or line dots). Hard to tell what's happening this way. If you like top attach a small copy of your db, I'll be more than happy to look at it.

it won't let me send it. can you give me your email address?

i have sent you an email but i am not sure if you got it, there seemed to be transmission problems at my end.

I'm surprised. Unless your attachment (database) is too large it should come over well. Try again. If it does not work because of the attachment send me a short e-mail and I'll reply with an alternate e-mail address.

it's 1200k and hotmail only lets me send 1024k, so you won't be able to receive it, obviously.
send me a different email address if you can.
cheers

Like to help you. Do me a favor and send me an e-mail without the attachment to the hotmail address and I'll return my alternate e-mail address (don't like to post all of them)

I can't solve the problem but I might be able to help with sending the file. You might want to try compacting the database....zip can help but before you do that try this:

Tools/Database Utilities/Compact and Repair Database

....if its still too big you may want to delete some of the stuff that isn't needed in the database for him to help you and then compact it. Hope that helps

Got your e-mail. Replied. Will look at db upon receipt.
Marcel
