Hi all,

I'm brand new here and I'm looking for a little (ok a lot) of assistance. I want to create some sort of database application for the CNC machine shop I work at. the business software is a little outdated here and I feel something created with access can solve the problem.

All that I need is something that can manage inventory, show current WIP, job schedules for machines.

I've searched everywhere on the internet for some sort of direction and I am still at square one.

Thanks for any advice!

Welcome aboard:) I don't want to discourage you but inventory, WIP, and scheduling are pretty difficult tasks to program. You aren't going to find some throw-away code template to build on. You might find some samples that deal with inventory but they will be simplistic. WIP and scheduling you will be building from scratch. So, if you think you want to get involved, start gathering requirements and documenting them. If you do a good enough job, you may end up with a product you can market.

A less ambitious approach would be to add Access apps "around" your existing application. Hopefully, it stores data in a database you can access via ODBC. I've created many applications that get data from SAP, Timberline, Great Plains, and other mega systems and build on it to create custom features that the stock application doesn't support.
