Column setting in detail section

I have a report with 2 group headers and a need to display the numerical data in the detail section in descending order that follows in row format. since the detail section contains only one column I tried arranging the data using columns in the page setup, however this puts all data into column format including the group headers.
is there any way to avoid this problem.
help will be appreciated
