Combo Box Limit Woes

I'm working with a table containing 220,000+ records. Unfortunately, the associated form's combo box is limited to the first 65,536 records. I would like to (1) be able to view all records, or (2) have the limited viewing move with the input (using first letter of last name?). Microsoft lists this as a problem with Access 2000, but maybe someone has devised a work-around. Any help is appreciated!!

Thank you for your speedy reply! I attempted to follow the directions and it didn't work. However, my knowledge of visual basic is terrible, so I'll hit the books and try to find out what's wrong.
