Combo box value is not populating

After opening up a form I populate the combo box value using the following code:
DoCmd.OpenForm "Notes"
Forms!Notes!cmb_ProjectStatus.Value = Module1.ProjectStatus
Everything works fine until I split the database to front and back end.
Once I do that the combo box does not populate.
Any idea why and how I can fix it?

to ensure that Module1.ProjectStatus has a value I added:
msgbox Module1.ProjectStatus
I get the message box popping up with the proper value.
I don't get it!!!

Problem solved...thank you everyone!!!
I Wasn't returning the right value to the combobox.
