combo box values

hullo. i'm throwing together a database for my office and ran into a little bit of a jam.

a little background to help better illustrate my problem:

the database deals with members of my squadron. each of these members has an "afsc" , or job code, assigned to them. each of these AFSCS can have 1 of many prefixes and/or suffixes. there are over a hundred of these afscs. in order to make a value list that could encompass all of the possible combinations i would have to put a work order in for a bigger hard drive.

unfortunately times are hard and this wont happen.

so what i want to do is have something like this
3 combo boxes, prefix afsc suffix. simple enough. however the suffixes mean different things depending on what AFSC the person has (the prefixes mean the same no matter what, so they're not really a concern). for example a suffix of "A" could mean this person is an anasthesiologist or an orthopedic surgeon. so what i would like to do is have the values available in the suffix combo box dependant on what value is currently selected in the afsc box.

i apologise if this is an utterly silly inquiry, as i have but only a week experience in access. if someone could lend me a hand, i would appreciate it a great deal.

No, not a silly request in any way.

Each combo box has a row source. This can be a list you type in yourself, a list of fieldnames from a table or a list of values from a table or query.

You can base your suffix combo on a query which selects suffixes from your table WHERE the AFSCS is a certain value.

If you want to post your list of values, I can run up a quick demo for you.

thanks! here you go

This is just the beginnings of the data entry procedure.

its self explanatory but i'll brief you anyway

first column is the job code. there are 3 instances of each one. the last number is a skill level, the first 2 #'s and the letter indicate the field

so 42G1, 42G is physicians assistnat, 1 is the skill level, thus that person is a 42G1

if they specialised in orthopedics, their full afsc (that stands for air force specialty code by the way) would be 42G1A.

to reiterate (dunno if i was clear first time)
i would like 2 combo boxes, one with all the afscs, and the second with the possible (if any) suffixes for that particular afscs.

thanks a lot, sir!

NOTE: i updated the attachment, it is now an mdb file.
