Command buttons??? SwitchBoards??

Hello Peeps!!!

Wondering if someone smart could provide me with some help here!! I want to know how to create a command button??? I originally thought that this was complex stuff but was assured that it is not??:( Not sure though??!!

Just want to know basically how I go about creating these command buttons??

So if someone could inform me of it I would be most grateful and trust me that is the truth!!!

Basically I have nearly got the basic design of my database down but I want it to be more user friendly ya get me?? My boss has no idea how to use access AT ALL so I was thinking if I had some sort of switchboard and command buttons to do things he won't get no head ache and completely muck up my database ya understand???

See basically when I am not there he wants to be able to view the POD's (Proof of Deliverys) [people that have signed for the deliveries we have made] and basically to go throught the database window is WAY to confusing for him so I would like to design switchboard and some command buttons. I also have invoice reports and would like to be able to print them out with just the push of a button. I may be able to have time off without the boss ringing me in every five minutes ya get me??

Any way any advice on switch boards and command buttons would be a great help believe!!!

Are they as easy as I have been told? or is it just easy to people who know what they are doing??

I would like to have a go do anyone think I'd be able to ???

Some general thoughts. You're on the right track, since I think the user should only see the forms, reports, etc that you've created for them, not the tables and queries directly. That of course puts the load on you to build it all.

I personally don't like switchboards; I create my own forms with buttons to call other forms or perform other functions. It's very easy to add a command button. In design view of the form, click on the command button icon in the tool box, then on the form where you want the button. A wizard should come up to lead you through many of the common functions for a button. If you need something different, you'll need to create the code yourself.

I thought it was something about MACROS?? And I also thought that they were complex business ya get me??
If a wizard pops up then it should be a piece of cake I will let you know how i get on mate ok nice one and thamx again!!!

So no go with the switch board then?? Why are they difficult to sort out??
Is it best to just make my own form with command buttons on like what you did then??

I am pretty new to access which is why i want to get the best advice. I have at work designed a fairly simple database for a courier company just to see if it'll work this month is just a tester ya get me? Well know see I am gonna start designing the real thing and I want it to look proper with buttons to make it easier for my boss and other people to use and the only way that is gonna happen is if I put some user friendly things init like "command buttons" and may be some kind of main form or switch board so they don't have to go near any thing else and accidently ***** it up ya get me??
On the one at work I haven't even got combo boxes or list boxes or anything like that on it. I will add them to the proper design. So at the moment I am sort of having to retype each Employees name for each job instead of selecting from a combo/list box. Could you let me know if they are the same thing??

I'm not going to say switchboards are "bad", just that I don't like them. It could simply be because I learned to make my own first, so switchboards seem limiting to me. Someone else may post here and tell you they're great, and I wouldn't argue. I suspect it's just personal preference.

Is your last question whether combo/list boxes are the same? They are not. A combo box can allow entry of items not in the list (or not), a list box does not allow entry, only selection. A list box will allow you to select multiple items, a combo box will not. Combo takes up less room on a form. Choice of either sort of depends on what you're doing. For selecting an employee, I usually use a combo.
