Compact on Close

Dear Access Expert.

How reliable / stable is this feature.?

I was advised not to use it in Access 2003 due to potential corruption.
I have also read somewhere that you should always backup before compact and repairing.

In Access 2007 is this feature safe to use?

I have always used it, never had any problems.. However I ALWAYS keep a backup somewhere....

Good advice. I have never had an issue with Compact and Repair either, but having a backup of the DB is always the best policy.

I would be more inclined to compact when the file has reached a certain size or perhaps compact on a certain day (for example).

We've got their

Total Access Analyzer
Total Access Detective
Total Visual Code Tools

And they were purchased before I got here. Frankly I haven't explored them enough to make any recommendations either for or against.

if you use FE/BE you only need to compact the FE. In this case there is no risk for the BE (all data). in nay case of dameged FE you can easily reinstall it.
