Compact question

I know this may be a stupid question, but it's important I know as I've had some information disappear.

Can compacting a database do any damage or delete anything from the tables?

Actually, I just finished reading this link from Sambo's post.

Sounds as if the db may drop records, get corrupted, and so forth if you're compacting while another instance/connection of the application is open. Bottom line is to make sure that no one else is on it when you're compacting.

All these multi-user client/server network environment considerations really are killers

Just to clarify for some who may misinterpret the article. If you set the db to Compact On Close in a multi-user environ it will not run unless there are no other users in the db.

Decompile option...

Vassago/Ripper:

Try the following, undocumented, "decompile" option for Access 2000 databases:

type: <msaccess /decompile> on the command line; START button: RUN command... hopes this helps/comes in handy...

I used this on the problem mdb I am working on and it did help to eliminate the constant "repair" error messages we were receiving...bigger problem with this file is all the corrupt data?$??$@?@ See my picture in the Watercooler and hopefully, I'll have some hair left after this project!#??$!
