Compact ReadOnly Error?

Every morning I back up my databases and compact and repair them. The last few days, my backend has been giving me this error:


"Microsoft Access can't delete L:\KEYSupport\Maintenance Agreements\KTBackEnd.mdb after compacting it. The compacted database has been named L:\KEYSupport\Maintenance Agreements\db1.mdb.

If you compact a database using the same name, Microsoft Access creates a new compacted database and then deletes the original datbase. In this case, however, the original database wasn't deleted because it is read-only.

If you can, remove the read-only status, delete the origianl, and then rename the original name. If you can't remove the read-only status, inform your workgroup administrator."



I have not made any changes to this database or the properties of it. I keep renaming db1 to the original name because it deletes the original.

Any clues on what might be happening?

I just checked and the databases are not read only.

This usually happens here when the network that the db resides on doesn't have much disk space.
This is one possibilty.

167GB used, 324GB free on a 500 GB drive...

Any other suggestions? It seems to be somewhat intermittent also if that helps.. The server is a 6.5 Netware server

I have created a service Db (about 2.5mb) not split. I checked the 'Compacton Close" Check box, sometimes OK, sometime get the msgbox as you indicated. I have compiled the code, then do a 'Compact and repair', and, same thing, sometimes OK sometimes not. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it ??

Exactly, same here - I had to switch off Compact on Close because users were getting the error randomly and not knowing how to rename/get around the message.

Major headaches - we are all on SP2 Access 2002/Windows XP

Has anyone found an answer to this problem???? I see very few post dealing with it..... But it is now a MAJOR problem in one of my DB's!!!!!!
