Receiving a 5003001 Jeterr35.hlp after trying to execute a CompactDatabase function.
This function resides in a "backup" mdb, which is kicked off from the mdb that would be compacted. A repair function works in the "backup" mdb after it is kicked off from the mdb that would be compacted; and the CompactDatabase function works, when the "backup" mdb is executed stand alone.

If my understanding is correct then your MDB to be compacted is still open when you try to compact, irrespective of where the function is started from. Your MDB must be closed befor it can be compacted.
I believe that FMS do a tool that allows databases to be compacted when the are still open. I have not used this myself but if you are interested then the address is http://www.fmsinc.com
