Hi,

I have a mysterious new compile error message appearing in my Access Database. As I am running a serious of make table queries to update records, a message pops up that says.

Function or Interface marked as restricted, or the function uses an Automation type not supported in Visual Basic.

The object DBEngine is highlighted in the code.
I've never received this message before. Does anyone have any idea how to fix it?

Or at least can someone give me hope that it CAN be fixed. My ITD guy is stumped. Thanks.

I've received that one before and I think, if I remember right, is that it was a missing reference problem. (boy we've had a lot of those on the site lately)

Go into the VBA code window, select Tools / Reference.

Then click on the reference that is listed as MISSING (not on the checkbox). If you click on the reference it will show you in a gray area below which file you should be looking for.

So, uncheck the check box for the missing reference, close the dialog box. Open it up again by selecting Tools / References and then click the BROWSE button.

Go to the place where your file should be (for Comctl32.ocx I believe it will be in the Windows/System folder.

Select it and shut the dialogs. It should work now.
