I have a database with 1 table. It has as fields: Check#, PAYEE, City of Payee, and amount. I did not create this database, so I would never have had the payee in the same table. Anyway, now somebody wants a report or qry based on 1) Number of checks written to say payee X. Now for the tricky part, a few of the payee's are in different city's. So now I would get say, 15 responses for payee x, but then 4 would be for a differnent city.

Am I going crazy, as I can't make sense of this. What should I do? Create a new table for the payee's. Can I create multiple qrys?

A bit miffed.

I find it odd that you would have 1 payee in four different cities. Is it possible these payees are different divisions of the same company? Example:
ABC Corp. Engine Division - Denver CO
ABC Corp. Tractor Division - Oakland CA
ABC Corp. Boat Division - Seattle WA

If this is the case, simply change the name of the payee in the table to reflect the "division". You could then create a query for all of ABC's cheques and a second query for each division.

Sorry, thats as far as my thinking takes me

That's what I would have done.

Turns out the database was an import, that's why it didn't have any formatting. I was able to get the information I needed out of it, so I'm done with this. I would never have created a tbl like that.

Thanks so much for the follow up.
