Hi,

I'm new to this forum so if I ask something stupid please forgive :)

I want to do something like the contact management database which is offered by microsoft for download.

I played a little with it and my problem is I copy-pasted the "calls" tab and on the pasted tab when I browse throug the different calls the call notes field below wont change / update. I thought there is maybe a macro behind it but I looked at every macro and did not find anything appropriate in my opinion.

It is maybe only a minor but I can not figure it out,

Thanks for any help in advance,

Leslie

PS.: I uploaded the database to rapidshare : http://rapidshare.com/files/1305209/Contact_management_database.mdb

Contact management database

I am just about to start from scratch with a contact database and would be happy to look at this one- had a quick look on microsfot site but can't see it can you give a reference where you got the download

Ta humph

Help secton of ms access

I found it in the help section of ms access.

Push F1, enter contact management and the first hit is a link to this database. It opens somekind of internal download window so unfortunately I cannot give you a direct link.

Hope you find it.

Why not zip up your db and attach it to your post here. This site accepts uploads.

What version of Access are you using? It works for me in acXP though with a slight delay to catch up.

Access 2003

I'm using access 2003.

Have you tried to copy the tab? The original one does function well but if I copy it as a fourth tab for example then it wont update this call notes field.

database with my problem

Thanks for your patience !

So the problem is that when you open the "Contacts" form there are four pages (General, Calls, Additional Info and Problem) In the Calls page when you browse through the diff. calls then below the call notes field is updated.
I have copied the "Calls" page and renamed it "Problem". Now on this page when I browse the Call Notes field is not updated. Thats my problem again.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that there is a form called "Calls" and this form is somehow inserted into the "Contact" form and I can not simply copy the "Calls" page.

Thanks in advance,

You did not have the LinkChild/MasterFields set up correctly. They were still pointing to the controls on the second page.

Thanks !!

Thank you very much RuralGuy ! I was thinking about this problem for about a week now. I just did not recognize that there was a hidden field :) I'm not an expert this deep.

Thanks again.

I dare to ask but can you look at the database below?
I found several posts about it in this forum but could not figure out the problem. It has to do with the date format I'm using. If I switch to american then the database works fine but if I switch back to the format I'm using then the following line gives me an error:

rs.FindFirst "inputdate=#" & f("date" & i) & "#" highlighted yellow

I'm using the format yyyy/mm/dd

Sorry for this but I think you are the right guy for this problem :)

What do you do to "switch" to the yyyy/mm/dd format?

Default

I do nothing, my default date format is for example 2006.11.02 for today.

This causes the problem I think, because when I go to the control panel and swith to the american format then the calendar is working fine. But I cannot use the american date format, that is my problem.

Is it your Windows default format? You have an input mask in the StartDate and EndDate controls on the frmChoose.

I think I understand your issue. Maybe reviewing a few links will shed some additional light on the topic for you.
Return Dates in US #mm/dd/yyyy# format
Storing, Calculating, and Comparing Date/Time Data

The short story is Dates can be displayed in practically *any* format you choose but they are *always* stored in the same way if they are in a DateTime field. Access *only* knows how to locate dates in a DateTime field if you use the "American" format. Does that help? BTW, I like your Application. You've done some good work there.

:) Thanks again

You solved also this problem. I should have asked you weeks before :)

Thanks very much for your help, and this forum is really great !
