Hi guys

I'm confused !! I designed a basic form last night which included a few text boxes and a few combo boxes. All the text boxs relate to the same table.

Everything worked fine lastnight test with some data entry. This morning when I went back to the form I can't enter anything into the text boxes. They just 'beep' as soon as I hit a key? The combo boxes all work fine, you select an item and it goes into the field.

I have checked all my relationships and the table, the text boxes relate to - all seems fine

any ideas ???

Many thanks

Paul

Look at the Allow Edits and Allow Additions properties of the form, setting them to Yes.

thanks for such quick reply - they are both set to Yes ?

I have just added one of the "problem forms" control's to another form that is working - and it won't let me add any data to it on this for either - not sure if that helps as a clue?

Check the Recordset Type property and ensure it is Dynaset.

yes it set to Dynaset - wierd thing here is that i have just created a blank form and added some of the controls to that one and they work?

so I am assuming it is not a problem with the table ??

Look at each Control's Locked property and ensure it's set No.

Is a table the record source of the form?

All of the locks are set to no. The form's source is a table.

The form was created as a blank form and I added the controls one by one using "Add Exsisting Fields" button on the ribbon.

not sure if it relevant but there is a query in the forms record source - as below

Code:
SELECT Treatments.[Serial Number], Treatments.TreatmentRedcordedDate, Treatments.TreatmentRecordedTime, Treatments.TreatmentDate, Treatments.TreatmentTime, Treatments.TreatmentLocationGiven, Treatments.TreatmentReason, Treatments.TreatmentClinicalObs, Treatments.TreatmentGiven, Treatments.TreatmentRecommendations, Disposals.DisposalOther FROM Disposals INNER JOIN Treatments ON Disposals.DisposalID = Treatments.DisposalID;

Thanks for your help on this by the way !

Maybe you can upload your database for us to look at - indicating which form is the problem form.

Ok will do - I am just going to try and build a new form first as the controls seem to work on other test forms I have just created

will post back as soon as I know what happens

many thanks

If there's no direct relationship between Disposals and Treatments then it may become unupateable.

I have a funny feeling that may be the field that is causing the problem because it was one of the last fields entered. It is related to the table in the relationships 1 to many

I will re-do the form again and keep my fingers crossed !

thanks

Update ..

I have re-created the form and it all seems to be working fine. I did remove the "Disposal" control which was related to another table and used a value list instead which does the same job with less complications !

I still don't know what actually caused the original problem but all is well now!!

Many thanks for your help - as ever

Paul
