Converting a "LEAD" to a "CLIENT"

Hi there

I have tables: tblLeads, and tblClients

Once the "lead" becomes I client, I would like it to be moved to the tblClients

How could I do this? possible a button which can be clicked in the "frmLeads" which sends the record to the clients table and form?

Please can someone point me in the right direction

Maybe better to ask "Should I do this?" To which the answer, IMO, would be no. Its likely you could combine both tblLEAD and tblCLIENT into one table, and then use a Type field with options of Lead and Client.

thank u for the reply. I understand your reasoning for rather having a type field for client and lead rather than 2 tables. the reason I wanted to have a "conversion" option from lead to client - is to be able to view the "conversion rate" for clients. Eg, to see that I entered 10 leads, of which only 5 became clients, and I therefore have a "conversion rate" of 50%... or something like that...

You could. How about a field named "Conversion Date". That way you can track exactly when someone changed from a lead to a client. You could could even check how you're doing by quarter, month, etc. doing it this way.

If it makes more sense for you to keep them separate, however, I think an append and a delete query could do the trick. The first to append the data from one table to the other, the second to delete the data from the client table. I'm sure someone could write code to do both with one click, but the append & delete would be a lot easier I think.

You should be able to link both of the action queries to buttons on your form.
