I have recently installed access 2007 and I get an error when trying to do an import data macro for an excel file. It says "could not find installable isam". I have googled and googled, and tried the following:

renaming the msexcl35.dll and msexcl40.dll files, reinstalling access, verifying path is correct in the registry, and manually registered the above files. I also have the most recent jet service pack installed.

Anyone have any ideas what is wrong?

How are you actually trying to import?

If you use DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet method, it should work.

I am using the import method in a macro...whatever access does.

In your macro, try usng the TransferSpreadsheet command instead. Did you create the macro or did Access?

Can you run the compact and repair utility and then zip your database with something like WinZip. The total size to post here has to be 393Kb or less.

Actually, since we had numerous other problems, we have reverted back to access 97...so, until we decide to upgrade again (maybe in another 10 years :P), this issue is dead. We have numerous databses created in 97 that are just too old to upgrade to 2007, the databases close all the ime with the error suggesting to repair and restart. So, until we wish to do this again, I will consider this resolved. Thanks for your help though!

Hey, good luck in upgrading the 97 stuff when you finally do. It definitely can be quite a bit of work.
