COUNT with linked tables

I have a database which reads an Excel workbook. There are 12 worksheets (one for each month) in this workbook and each worksheet has a range that is linked to a separate table. So there are 12 of these tables in Access.

I'll try to be brief, but essentially each worksheet is a monthly breakdown of claim audits, so there will be the claim, the patient, the amount of the claim, the person handling the claim, etc.

I need to do some calculations on these tables in a report, things like COUNTing the number of records, being able to divide the COUNT by the number of unique persons handling the claims, that sort of thing. To make things interesting, the reports have to be on a quarterly basis, so I have a UNION query which joins the tables together in groups of 3 for each quarter.

I'm trying to create the report and I had assume that I could just link each control box with a =COUNT([QUERYNAME].[CLAIMNUMBER]). I realize I might have the incorrect syntax, but I've tried almost every way and I keep getting either #NAME? or #ERROR?.

I'm obviously doing something very wrong. Should I be making one very large query and make that the Record Source? Right now it is blank and I'm just making control boxes but it's not working.

I hope I'm not too confusing for a Friday, but I have been working on this off and on for a week and I'm no further than I was on Monday. Any help is much appreciated!

Your best be to get the number of records is to carry out the summation in a query by using TOTALS from the View menu. Here you can group by say people and count the number of entries etc. Then you can use this info to feed to the report
