Hi there,

I have a form with information on it relating to several linked tables. I would like this information to be duplicated in the tables and a new autonumber assigned.

Is there a way that I can do this by clicking one button and the autonumber will automatically generate a new number keeping the rest of the information in the form and updating the tables with a new record?.

Thanks for you help
Belinda

Use a query to bring the tables together and set the form to open to a new record.

If you look at the Doc I have attached.

Top portion is tblMBRinfo

Bottom portion is tblClaims.

If I type the SSN in the botoom the rest of the info is populated for that MBR and then I just enter the new claim info.

I hope this helps.

You could also use the wizard for the button and reopen the form to that record. That is the long way. If you know SQL I am sure there is a quicker way.

Beware of a possible design issue. You don't give the "WHY" of what you are trying to do. If you are creating new records in the same table with duplicate information from other records in that table, you need to look at the topic called "normalization." If you don't, you will suffer from database bloating due to redundant information being stored in too many places at once. Unless the information you are storing is a foreign key to the data rather than the actual data. In the latter case, Bigmo2u gave you a usable answer.
