Hey all, it's been a while since I was last here. Just been doing some work on the database and have been tasked with changing all the reports to a different style. All is going well except when I try to change the font.

I have downloaded a font called Lato with a number of variants (bold, light, regular etc.) and when I change the font of a text box or label for example, it works fine until I close the database. When I reopen, it seems to have changed some of them back to a different font.

When I select the field and check, the font name Lato Bold is still there but I have to delete the name of the font from the font name property and type it back in to get it to show properly.

What on earth is going on here? Appreciate any help!

EDIT

ok so after having another look, it seems that sometimes when I open it, it has the correct font and other times it chooses times new roman or something that looks a bit like Lato

Cheers All

I tried to replicate your problem by downloading Fette Fraktur from http://www.fontspace.com/category/fraktur I wasn't able to. Please tell us where you got your font, what your operation system you are using and what Access version. Also suggest using this Lato font in some other application e.g., Word and see if you have similar problems. You could also download a font from the site I referenced and see if you have the same problem.

How did you install the font? If you are using Window did you put the Font directly in the Font folder or did you using the Install button (see attached screen shot) you get when you open the font file?

You could also upload your database and the font file and I'll test it on my system. I'm using Windows 7 with Access 2013.

Hi Thanks for your reply. I am using a font called Lato which I downloaded from Font Squirrel. I am using windows 10 and Office 2010. Just going to try a different font from the same place and see what happens. Thanks again

EDIT:

So I tried another font again from font squirrel and the same thing happens. When I re-open the database, it still has the name of the font in the properties windows but the font wont show. Also I forgot to mention that I am installing the font by opening the ttf / oft file and clicking 'Install' - no problems using this method for Photoshop or any other software.. going to check word now

Word is more than happy with the font and does not revert back when closed an reopened. Also after testing with a system font, I seem to be getting the same thing. For whatever reason it just keeps reverting to a standard type.

Hey all, After having a go with a new database, I have managed to get the font to work with a new report on the new database. I should mention that the database I'm working on was created when I was using windows 7 and am now on windows 10. I have been through all the settings and I cant find anything that would explain the problem.

EDIT:

Nothing to do with Windows 10 it would seem. I have just tried to replicate the problem in a database I started a couple of months ago (long after windows 10's arrival) and the same happened with the font reverting to some standard typface. This is going to drive me crazy

Ok I think I have found the problem and the sollution. As it turns out, if the font I want to use is not part of the Font theme I am using, it will keep reverting back to those font's even when I override the font face in the properties window. My solution was to go through the database and make sure they were all set to either the default header font or the default detail font and then change those to Lato and Arial. I assume this must be a bug with the database and it dosnt do this if I start a new database and dont select a font theme.

Anyway its working now and although only having 2 fonts for an entire database isn't ideal, I can now use the Lato font without issue.

Interestingly, I also tried creating a new database and importing all my tables, forms etc from the original database and this worked too but it made a total mess of the rest of the fonts and for some reason the colour scheme too but it worked.

Hope this helps someone else
