when I try to open my access database (office 365) I get the following error "The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship...." it pops up twice with just a OK or HELP no matter what I press the database does not open it just returns to the open or create a database screen. It creates the record looking file and then leaves it open but sometime it will close it.

I've tried copying the database and opening the copy (same results as described above)

I've tried rebooting (several times)

I've tried to run a compact and repair I get the same error message and I am returned to the screen that I initiated the compact and repair from

I've tried to import the tables queries and forms to a new database I get the same error message and I am returned to the screen that I initiated the import from

I know what this error means and how to fix it but I need to get the database to open to fix it

yes about 3 days old Grrr working on getting it now it kinda of a pain so I'm trying to figure out how this happened and how to prevent it next time

Press and hold SHIFT while opening the database. Unless you've specifically disabled that, it will bypass all startup routines and just open the database.

And it sounds like you have some code updating some table at startup. If so, that could be causing your issue.

Create a copy of your backup and them try to import the tables one at a time. Sounds like one of the tables has bad data

I tried the shift thing it did not work I don't think I disabled it but it is certainly possible. Yes I have some code connected to a form that open on start up but i don't think I can disable this without getting the file open

How big is the database ?

Try copying the backup and importing tables 1 at a time as above.
