Hello All,
Typically when I enter the design view of a form, the subform shows its data fields. For some strange reason, when I click on design view the subform now opens as a large white box with no data fields.

May someone explain this anomaly to me?

Thanks in advance

Someone else may be able to explain why this happens. I do know that this happens to me however if see the white box you can get out of design mode and then go back in. For some reason that seems to work. I'd be interested as well to see if there is a better way.

Add me to the list of people who want to figure this one out. I even put two instances of the exact same subform on one masterform. One ends up a sub-designview and one ends up a white box.

Also, (and there must be a simple fix to this) how do you pull up the subform control properties of the subform that is being displayed in design (non-whitebox) mode? On the white box you can just double click, but double clicking the design view subform yields the actual independant form properties of that subform.

Solved...

Well, after some quick messing around I found that Access (at least in my version 2000) automatically opens a subform in design view IF there is no other window that contains the same subform in design view.

To put it another way, only one design view of any one form (subform or masterform) can be shown at a time (obviously with good reason).

Thus, you can control Access's behavior (give all white boxes) by opening the subform in its own design window prior to openning the masterform in design view. If you don't like the white boxes, open the masterform normally by itself.

This also explains why two copies of the same subform displayed differently as in my previous screenshot.
