database bulge

Hi,

around 7pm, my db was a nice 6mb. i added 2 small forms unbound and a bout 20 lines of text. my db is now 52mb!!

i turned on Compact on close today. shouldnt the size go the other way? What would be the cause of the bulge in size?

ive started getting a message about being out of memory...

Hi,

and 20 minutes later after deleting 2 objects of the same form, my db is now 101mb!!!

is there any way i can reduce this down or is it a case of making a new db and importing everything in from the old fat one?

Have you embedded images in your tables? Do you regularly Debug > Compile your db?

Here's an article (a bit dated) but it has very good explanations as to why a database might grow rapidly, and what we can do about it. Doing all major changes on a "working copy" has been a technique I use. Then I transfer the code or object to the real database.

Hi,

dont know what the problem was. I made a new db, imported everything into it and its back to normal. I had compiled it and compacted it too and nothing came up. Never had it before.

A Debug > Compile is different from Compact & Repair. It's always good to do it everytime you add code.

Glad to see you've got it downsized.
