Hi Forum,

I am creating a database for a small business in my local area for my assignment in university. I have not done any big database like this before, I have been told that they is more tables as entities that would of been placed inside a table could have it's own table.

The business has five other branches and the system would need to imcorate all of these buisnesses.

Any advise, possible layouts etc

I don't know what sort of business this company is in but start by thinking of all the components: branches, employees, products, invoices, etc.

Then under these categories list what you think you'll need to capture. Speak to the company itself to determine what they need: what data needs stored, what outcomes they expect. Is this a new process you are starting or are you simulating a current process: Excel, paper, other system, etc.

Think about the data and how it relates to the other components. Obviously one branch can have many employees, but can one employee work in more than one branch? Things like that...

List back with your preliminary table structure for feedback.

thanks

Ok will see what i can find out cheers

Equipment

Hello,

There current system is an old basic till machine and paper work, but they wanted to know how much would it cost to kit them out with the neccesary hardware, anyone know were i could find that type of information.

Also the database would be used in several different locations so would they need a computer system to act as the main server and can be wer the manager does all his work off??

Possible equipment

Scanner device
Printer (if possible the ones you get in normal stores)
monitor (flat screen as desk space small)
desktop PC (Processor, RAM, Hard Disk,)
Keyboard

I know that you're in the UK so this may not help but DatabaseCreations has a pretty comprehensive point of sale system built in Access. Their website has complete specs and a downloadable demo. www.databasecreations.com
